Ukrainian Initiative Narratell Develops Public Observatory to Trace Russian Narratives in Western Media

The project aims to document how Russian-origin narratives are repeated, adapted, and normalized across Western media, political discourse, and public debate.

New york, NY, October 28, 2026 — Narratell, an independent Ukrainian initiative, is developing a public research observatory focused on understanding how narratives originating within Russia’s information ecosystem spread beyond their original sources and become part of international public discourse.

The project examines a specific phenomenon known as narrative laundering: the process through which information narratives are repeated, reframed, and circulated by different media outlets, commentators, and public figures, sometimes losing their original context along the way.

While much of the existing work on Russian disinformation focuses on identifying misleading claims or examining their original sources, Narratell seeks to document what happens next — how those narratives travel through Western information environments, evolve across languages and platforms, and gradually become normalized through repetition.

Following more than a year of research and methodological development, the Narratell team is working toward an evidence-based system that connects documented narratives with specific publications, statements, source materials, and their historical context.

The initiative’s approach emphasizes verifiable evidence rather than assumptions about political affiliation, hidden coordination, or individual motives. Its planned public observatory is intended to make these documented patterns accessible to journalists, researchers, investigators, and civil society organizations.

Beyond Research: A Vision for Education

Narratell’s founder, Denys Kubriak, also sees education as an important part of the initiative’s long-term future.

“My personal ambition is to see the knowledge and methodologies we develop eventually become part of Ukraine’s education system. Understanding how narratives are formed and spread should be an essential part of modern education,” said Kubriak.

As Narratell continues developing its research methodology and technological foundations, its broader objective remains to make the mechanisms of information influence more visible, understandable, and open to independent examination.
